Duct fans are an essential component of ducted ventilation systems. Their task is to overcome pressure losses on long runs of ductwork to ensure that the air flows through the complete length of the ducted system. They are characterised by having spigot or flange connections to allow them to be connected to the ducting both upstream and downstream.

Found in diverse applications including domestic, commercial and industrial ventilation systems, duct fans can be either of a centrifugal design or axial type.
