Mobile And Portable Electric Radiant Heater

Often the stalwart of top-up heating in homes, shops and offices on the coldest days, mobile radiant are varied and numerous. They are mostly 230v but there are also some 110v machines that are suitable for site work applications. Our experience in this range of products is that the units that have orange or red visible light as well as heat are often very prone to burning out elements and element holders, and to replace a set of elements can be very costly, to the extent that it is almost cheaper to replace the heater. For this reason our listings in this area have evolved considerably over the years and there are several models we would not supply again. What is left on the range are either products that are new to us and only partly proven and others that we have been supplying for years.

We are happy to recommend the following heaters;

RosyGlo

NG2

CH3

The RosyGlo has visible glowing elements but in its favour, it comes in a very robust case and the elements seem to last well and are not expensive to replaceableThe NG2 and CH3 have ceramic elements and they last very well and are protected by a tough steel casing. This type does not provide an intense heat like the units with visible light but they do make a close working environment workable.

Portable radiant heaters are often used in small-scale surface treatment applications for the assisting curing of paints and glues etc.

Wall Mounted 230v Electric Radiant Heaters

230v in a heater generally limits the power of the heater to 3kw, and they are generally supplied with a lead that enables the heater to be connected to a fused wall plate or even to be hard-wired. A good application for these heaters is in staffed processing and packing stations in warehouses and factories, where localised heat for staff is required within a larger relatively cold building. Wall mounting does not mean that the heaters have to be mounted on a wall necessarily; they could equally be mounted on drop rods from the ceiling if the walls are too far away or are not suitably orientated to where the heat is needed. Many of our heaters are suitable for either wall or ceiling hanging

Frico CIR

Sealey IWMH

Thermoplus

Sealey IWMH

CIR series heaters that are suited to both wall mounting or being ceiling hung as part of a larger array of heatersSealey IWMH series electric radiant heaters that are ideal for larger wall mounted applications for factory and warehouse work stations, as well as for product dryingThermoplus heaters are wall mounted but are intended to counter window chill. Other Thermoplus units have a high degree of water resistance (IP44) and can be used in bathrooms and wetroomsIWMH with pull cord, often used in domestic and workshops.

Ceiling Mounted 230v Electric Radiant Heaters

In some smaller scale applications where use of a room is occasional rather than continuous, ceiling mounted electric radiant heaters are very popular. Churches, sports halls, community centres, tend to demand heaters that are quick and easy to install and which are, quick to heat up and controllable. Where heaters are put in community halls and sports centres we recommend that thought be given to protection of the heaters from impact from footballs, helium filled balloons and the like. Most of the Frico range heaters have options for protective grids. Within the constraints of 230v, and with some model capable of projecting heat from a mounting height up to 10m, there is a good range to cover this sector including the following models;

Elztrip EZ

Frico IRCF

Thermocassette

Frico CIR

Frico EZ100 & EZ200 series radiant heaters offer all the benefits of radiant technology but with a clean white discrete appearance. EZ200 models can be mounted on higher ceilings up to 10mFrico IRCF can be wall or ceiling mountedThe Frico Thermocassette heaters are designed to be mounted either in a suspended ceiling grid or mounted to a ceiling. They make a very neat and discrete installation are useful in prefabricated buildings, offices and cafeteria areas in factories. All the sophistication of radiant water fed panels but without the pipes and valvesFrico CIR is popular in churches and buildings that have spectacular internal architecture. Their long thin appearance is far less distracting to the eye than many equivalent heaters

Ceiling Mounted 415v Radiant Heaters

With the availability of 3 phase, the options for radiant heating increase, with a wider range of models, heater size and output. For applications where there is 3 phase available is not unusual for a number of models to be suitable and proposed layouts may involve a number of different models being used to suit different ceiling heights, areas, and levels heating required and proximity to doors and openings etc.

Although we have a number of straight forward tools for estimating heat loss for buildings, which with a degree of safety margin applied are sufficient guide for sizing most applications requirements, larger applications usually merit a detailed modelling of heat losses, given the different materials in the construction of the building, in order to get a more exact sizing of heating requirements in various sections.

Some 415v 3 phase radiant heaters can produce effective heat even when mounted at heights up to 20m, which opens up the scope of application to some of the largest sports halls and warehouses. With some applications radiant heaters are hung at a relatively low height with a large gap to the ceiling, to lessen the heating requirement. In other applications, particularly those in building housing large machines, gantry cranes or in sports halls where balls, gymnasts, or shuttlecocks require freedom of movement even at high levels, the mounting height of radiant heaters needs to be much closer to the ceiling.

The largest size of IRCF is available as an option powered by 415v 3 phase

Frico IR

Frico EZF 42

Frico IRCF

The IR series heaters offers 3 sizes and effective heat delivery from mounting heights up to 20mEZF offers heating from height up to 15m and delivers high output on a long wave from relatively low surface temperatureEZF offers heating from height up to 15m and delivers high output on a long wave from relatively low surface temperature

Electric Radiant Heaters For Outdoor Applications

Space heating does not work without walls and ceiling to contain the generated heat. Radiant heaters, like the sun, do work outside. Their popularity has spread from external industrial applications where keeping outside machines and yards frost-free to sports stadiums and more recently smaller units are commonplace in smoking shelters attached to workplaces, pubs and clubs. There are now several commercial and industrial electric radiant heaters that are suited to heating outdoor areas.

HIR Sunburst

Frico ELIR

HIR Sunburst heaters and ELIR heaters are rated on the IP scale for Ingress Protection as 5 which means water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. In practice it means that they can be used outdoors in all weathers.

Frico IHW

HIR Sundance

IHW series heaters and HIR heaters are rated on the IP scale for Ingress Protection as 4 which means that water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect. In practice it means that they can be used outdoors but it is best to ensure that they are protected by a canopy

Frico IR

Frico EZF

The IR series and the EZF radiant heaters are rated on the IP scale for Ingress Protection as 4 which means that water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect. In practice it means that they can be used outdoors but it is best to ensure that they are protected by a canopy These larger heaters are good for covered loading yards, industrial applications and sports stadiums. Also useful for frost protection on loading bays and ensuring that external machinery such as conveyers do not ice up during dormant periods.
